Where to find work?

You can contact employers directly, keep an eye on newspaper advertisements and look for vacancies on the websites of operators who provide related services. To find web pages for jobs on the Internet, write “avoimet työpaikat” (vacancies) in the search engine’s text field. Many web pages for jobs allow you to fill in and send a job application and to enclose your CV. Vacancies posted to the TE Office are available on the website of TE Services. You can also download a mobile application called Työpaikkahaku that will bring all vacancies posted to TE Services to your mobile phone.

The North Ostrobothnia Employment and Economic Development Office (Työ- ja elinkeinotoimisto, TE Office) serves jobseekers online, by telephone and at six service points. More information on TE Office's services is available on the TE Office's website.

You can obtain information, advice and guidance on TE Services and support for using online services from the TE telephone service. The service is available on Monday–Friday at 9 am–4.15 pm.

Starting a business

Raahe District Business Services (Raahen seudun yrityspalvelut) is an organisation owned by the municipalities of the Raahe region. Its purpose is to develop business life and improve the operational prerequisites of businesses. Raahe District Business Services

Taxation

A foreign employee coming to work in the Raahe-Kalajoki region needs an individual tax number (veronumero) and a personal identity code, which are registered in the Northern Finland Tax Office, Raahe service point or Western Finland Tax Office, Ylivieska service point.

If you become unemployed

Citizens of an EU member state, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland can register as a jobseeker online using the TE Services' E-services (Oma asiointi). Citizens of other countries must start their job search by visiting a TE Office personally. Please bring proof of identity and your residence permit with you.

If you cannot register as a jobseeker online, fill in the Form for jobseekers and take the signed form personally to a TE Office. After registration, the TE Office will contact you. You can find the Form for jobseekers on the website of TE Services.

Fennovoima's Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant project in Pyhäjoki

Fennovoima will build Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant unit in Pyhäjoki. The plant will be supplied by RAOS Project Oy, which is part of the Russian Rosatom Group. According to the agreed schedule, the plant will begin generating electricity in 2024. The design and construction of a nuclear power plant is a large project that takes around ten years.

At most, there will be 3,000–4,000 people working at the nuclear power plant site. For most of them, the employer will arrange accommodation as close to the site as possible. An accommodation area for 1,000 people will be built in the immediate vicinity of the power plant site.

Pyhäjoki and the surrounding region have been preparing for the nuclear power plant project for several years. Information on the area is available, for example, in the Hanhikivi Guide available in Finnish, English, Swedish and Russian. You can find online versions of the guide on the Major projects website of the Raahe District Business Services. Printed guides are available in the corporate service centres of the local municipalities. As part of the preparative measures, information on various services available in this area has been collected on these local Infopankki pages.
