Violence

If a member of your family uses violence against you or threatens to do so, you can contact a shelter. You can call the shelter at any hour; the telephone number is 03 3143 4840.

The Women’s Shelter provides women with safety and support in crisis situations.

The Emergency Youth Shelters maintained by the Finnish Red Cross are intended for for young people under 19 years of age and their families. You can also stay overnight, if necessary. The services of the Youth Shelters are free of charge.

The Social Stand-by Service of the City of Tampere can also provide assistance in crisis situations.

Discrimination and racism

If you suspect that you have been discriminated against when applying for a job or at work, you should first attempt to resolve the matter at the workplace. If the matter cannot be resolved at the workplace, contact the occupational health and safety section of the Regional State Administrative Agency of Western and Inland Finland.

If you are discriminated against, you can request assistance from the Ombudsman for Minorities.

If you have fallen victim to a racist crime, you can file a report of the offence online or at a police station.

Do you need a lawyer?

Tampere has two public legal aid offices, the legal aid offices of Tampere and Pirkanmaa Both offices serve residents of Tampere and the surrounding municipalities without municipal restrictions.

Public legal aid means that a citizen is entitled to receive aid for the purpose of handling legal matters, whose services are partially or fully paid by the state. Public legal aid covers all legal matters. You can find more information online.

Death

If a person close to you dies suddenly, you can receive support from a debriefing group. The debriefing sessions process the emotions and experiences caused by crisis situations. Crisis assistance can be requested from Settlement Society Naapuri, tel. 03 3141 8500 or an activity counsellor at 045 140 6911.

You can also contact a health centre, school or Evangelical Lutheran parish. They will point you in the right direction.

Funeral arrangements involve a variety of matters on which information is available on parish websites.

Divorce

You can file for divorce independently or together with your spouse. Divorce applications must be submitted to the office of the District Court of Tampere. You can take the application to the District Court office or send it there by post, fax or email.

Children's problems

Child health clinics serve under-school-age children and their families. The nurses of the child health clinic provide advice on questions related to the health or growth and development of small children. Child health clinics also provide information about other services, such as those provided by family support workers, day-care workers, speech and occupational therapists, psychologists or social workers.

School nurses, social workers and psychologists can help with the problems of school-age children.

Children's psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers at family counselling centres can help with questions regarding the growth and development of children. The children's services are intended for persons under 13 years of age. Contact a family counselling centre if
- you are concerned about your child's behaviour, development, mood or emotional life
- your child is having trouble in day care or at school.

Family Centre Nopea helps children between 7 and 17 years of age and their families upon the initial onset of problems. The working pairs that serve the families of 7-12-year-olds operate within school areas. Young people’s problems

Young people can talk about their problems with school nurses or youth services instructors, for example.

Family Centre Nopea helps 7-17-year-old children living in Tampere and their families upon the initial onset of problems. Family Centre Nopea can help when families have disagreements, for example, regarding the time their children or adolescents should come home or how they should spend their free time, or if the children are doing poorly at school and communication within the family is strained. You can talk to the youth counsellors of parishes about your problems confidentially.

Emergency Youth Shelters are intended for people between 12 and 19 years of age and their families. The shelters provide assistance and support in all kinds of problems and crisis situations. The shelters also provide temporary overnight accommodation. The Emergency Youth Shelters are open every day from evening until morning. The services of the Youth Shelters are free of charge.

Mental health problems

If you need help with matters related to mental health, please contact your local health centre. The health centre doctors assess each customer's mental state and refer them to mental health services and, if necessary, to psychiatric care.

You can make an appointment with your personal doctor or nurse through the Telephone Health Service at 03 10023 every day between 7 am and 10 pm. Use the area code when calling from a mobile phone or outside the (03) network area.

The psychiatry outpatient clinic organises treatment and treatment evaluation for adult immigrants who have recently moved to the country. The City of Tampere website features information about depression and post-traumatic stress in a variety of languages.

Mental health services for school children and students

School children and students should contact the nurse at their school or educational institution when they feel the need to talk about matters that concern them, such as nervousness, exhaustion, feelings of melancholy or pressure regarding studies. The nurse will always guide those in need to further tests or treatment.
