Preparatory instruction 

Where Finnish language skill levels are insufficient for pre-school education, pupils may undergo preparatory teaching. The child’s guardians may contact a language and cultural group regional coordinator who will provide assistance in filling in the necessary paperwork and assess when the child would be ready to transfer to pre-school education.

Finnish as a second language and teaching of mother tongue

Pupils' morning and afternoon club activities

Morning and afternoon club activities for pupils is intended for first- and second-year pupils as well as special needs pupils from other years. Preference for club places is given to first years pupils. In Vantaa, club activities for pupils are implemented almost exclusively in the afternoon. Although directed by the city, in practice club activities are organised by associations, organisations, the parish and private entrepreneurs.

Afternoon clubs are normally run on school and parish premises, and mainly take place in Finnish and Swedish.
