Emergency social services (Sosiaalipäivystys)
The emergency social services number 020 696 006 is available during the hours between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. for situations demanding urgent social work. The services are available in Finnish, Swedish and English.
During office hours (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.) services are principally available from the local social service centre. Contact details in Finnish.
Crisis Emergency Services (kriisipäivystys)
If you are in need of immediate emotional support because of a crisis situation, you can contact crisis emergency services. The employees of the service will provide emotional support via the telephone. They will also come to your home or to the scene of the accident if necessary.

Youth problems
The Youth Information Centre Kompassi (Nuorisotiedotuskeskus Kompassi) website contains information on the places where young people can obtain help in various situations.
Youth Refuge (Nuorten turvatalo)
The Youth Refuge is intended to help young people in need of a safe place to spend the night. Calls can be made to the refuge at any time. Young people in need can come to the refuge after 5 p.m. and stay until 10 a.m. the next day. It is not possible to live permanently at the refuge.

The refuge is intended for people over 18 years of age who have been subjected to physical or mental violence.
Substance abuse
The Social Services Department’s Self-help (Oma-apupalvelut) page contains tests and other devices in Finnish in support of giving up substance abuse.
Youth clinics serve young people under 24 years old worried about their substance abuse or other dependencies. More information and contact details in Finnish and Swedish.
A-Clinics provide help for adults concerned about their own substance abuse or that of people close to them, or about other dependencies. More information and contact details in Finnish and Swedish.
The homeless may contact social services counselling for the homeless, tel. (09) 310 74065, open 8.15 a.m.-4 p.m. Further information in Finnish.

The health care telephone advice service will respond to questions relating to health services on the 24-hour number (09) 10023.

Drug problems

Homelessness
The Special Social Services Office of Helsinki (Helsingin kaupungin erityissosiaalitoimisto) provides services for the homeless in Helsinki.
In addition, the Salvation Army (Pelastusarmeija) and the Helsinki Deaconess Institute (Diakonissalaitos) are among the organisations providing hostel accommodation for the homeless in Helsinki. The Helsinki First Home (Helsingin ensikoti) is intended for young pregnant women who are without the support of a partner.
