The Employment Office is a place with information about work and education. When you have registered as a job-seeker, you will receive help from an employment counsellor in looking for a job. The Employment Office also gives information on work permit matters.

One way to become employed is to start your own business. Uusyrityskeskus (centre for new businesses) advises you on economic and permit matters.

Tax matters

When you go to work in Finland, you need a tax card. Give the card to the employer. You get the card from the Tax Office.

Security during unemployment

You may receive Unemployment Benefit if you live in Finland and are registered as a job-seeker at the Economic and Development Office (Työ- ja elinkeinotoimisto). The benefit is not the same for all applicants.

If you are unemployed, you take part in the activities of an association for the unemployed.
