Health care in Vantaa

Health Centres

Vantaa has eight health centres, which include doctors’, nurses’ and public health nurses’ receptions. Health centres are open on weekdays during the office hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.for urgent treatment required by Vantaa citizens. Emergency clinic

Vantaa citizens in need of urgent treatment outside normal office hours may contact the emergency clinic at Peijas Hospital . The emergency clinic is meant for those with sudden and acute illnesses, those requiring immediate treatment, and those whose general condition has rapidly and markedly deteriorated.

When a Child Falls Ill 

If your child should fall ill, contact the nearest health centre where necessary, or call the 24-hour health counselling service on +358 9 10023. Emergency services for children are also available at Peijas Hospital (see contact details above).

School health care

Adult psychiatric emergency services 

Emergency services in adult psychiatry are provided at Peijas Hospital (see contact details under Emergency Clinic).

Child and adolescent psychiatric emergency services  

Urgent treatment required during office hours on weekdays can be obtained at the local health centre reception between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District website contains information about emergency services for children available at other times in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Dental care 

The centralised appointments system operates from Mondays to Thursdays 7.30 a.m.-3 p.m. and Fridays and days preceding public holidays 7.30 a.m.–2 p.m. on the following numbers

Emergency dental treatment can be obtained on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Tikkurila and Myyrmäki health centres. Appointments may be made from 7.30 a.m. using the above numbers. First aid for those under 18 years of age is available by appointment from the nearest dental clinic.

Weekend emergency dental care 

Emergency dental care at weekends is available to all Vantaa residents at Tikkurila health centre from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays which fall on a weekday. Appointments may be made from 9.30 a.m. on Saturdays and from 10.30 a.m. on Sundays and weekday public holidays by calling (09) 8392 3805.

Gynaecological services 

The health centre may be contacted for an examination by a general practitioner in the case of gynaecological problems. There are no specialised gynaecologists practising at health centres, however.

Venereal diseases 

Contact the health centre in case of gynaecological or urological problems. Vantaa residents may also visit the Outpatient Clinic for Venereal Diseases in Helsinki without the need for a doctor’s referral.
