Espoo is situated in Southern Finland, on the shores of the Gulf of Finland. Espoo, with Helsinki, Vantaa and Kauniainen as its neighbours, is the second largest city in Finland, with a population of around 240,000.

At the beginning of 2008, 7.3% of the city’s residents spoke a language other than Finnish, Swedish or Sami as their mother tongue.

Counselling in different languages

The counselling centre In Espoo (In Espoo) advises immigrants in different aspects related to living in Finland, such as residence permits or matters related to social security. Multicultural local service centres

City of Espoo local service centres provide free counselling on language courses and education, social welfare and health services, accommodation, residence and work permits, use of computers, working life, preparing job applications, leisure activities and the activities of associations.

Language courses and group activity (food preparation, exercise, etc.) are also organised by the centres themselves. The groups, which are often free, involve learning Finnish through joint activity. Computers are available at the centres for the use of customers.

Citizen’s offices in Espoo provide service information and give customers counselling and guidance concerning the city’s specialist services.

Services available at citizen’s offices include free use of customer computers, photocopying (a charge is payable), the sending of faxes and the charging of public transport travel cards. Some citizen’s offices also sell tickets for a variety of events.

Espoo-magazine (Espoo-lehti)

Espoo-magazine is a public notice magazine published by the city for the citizens of Espoo. The magazine is delivered to every home in Espoo four times a year. The magazine is printed in Finnish and Swedish, but the online version is also available in English. You can read the magazine online in Finnish and English .
