Social services in Kuopio

In Kuopio, social services are provided by the Centre for Social and Health Services (sosiaali- ja terveyskeskus).

Social workers help you with social and economic problems. If your wage and financial aid are insufficient to pay for reasonable living expenses, you may apply for income support (toimeentulotuki).

The City of Kuopio Refugee Unit (maahanmuuttajapalvelut, address: Minna Canthin katu 28, 4. floor) helps refugees and returnees in all matters.

When you are pregnant

When you find that you are pregnant, book an appointment at the nearest Child Health Centre (neuvola). It is a service run by the City of Kuopio Centre for Social and Health Services. There are many Child Health Centres in Kuopio. The service is free.

Children and adolescents

Child daycare

There is a fee (charge) for daycare (päivähoito) arranged by the City of Kuopio. Payment is made once a month.

There are also private daycare centres (yksityiset päiväkodit, in Finnish). For example, “The English Kindergarten of Kuopio” and the “Kuopio German Daycare Centre”.

Growth and development

The child and adolescent unit (lasten ja nuorten yksikkö) provides expert psychosocial help for the growth and development of 0-17-year-olds, and also in family problem-related situations.

Adolescents

Youth activities are provided by the The Youth Services of the city of Kuopio (nuorisopalvelut). There are youth houses (nuorisotalot, in Finnish) around the city.

Elderly care

Care for Disabled

The Disability Services (vammaispalvelut) provide information on housing, interpreter, transporting, etc.
