Social services on duty (Sosiaalipäivystys)
On-duty social services refers to the help available in urgent social cases. Such cases include, for example, domestic violence, child welfare needs, or the acute worsening of the condition of an elderly person.
During office hours 8 a.m.–4 p.m. contact the Social Services Centre (sosiaalikeskus) tel. 015 1941 or the health centre (terveyskeskus) tel. 015 210 213. You can also call the general emergency number 112.
Child welfare has its own office hours on-duty service at Nuorten vastaanottokoti Havurinne (young people’s shelter) on weekdays 9–11 a.m. and 12 noon–3 p.m., tel. 044 7942394.
After office hours on weekdays 4 p.m.–8 a.m. and at weekends call for help when necessary using the Ensineuvo (First Help) service, tel. 015 211 411 or the general emergency number 112.
Mikkeli Crisis Centre (Mikkelin kriisikeskus)
The Mikkeli Crisis Centre provides help and support in crisis situations.These can include, for example, accidents, death of loved ones, domestic violence, illness, difficulties in intimate relations and other unexpected life changes. You can call if you need someone to listen. You can also make an appointment with crisis workers.

Health problems (Terveysongelmat)
The City of Mikkeli website contains information on health centres in Finnish.

The Child and Youth Development Support Unit provides help for children and young people (0–16 years old) as well as for their family problems. Services are free. Make an appointment in advance.

Youth problems (Nuorten ongelmat)
Information and links on questions relating to housing, study, working life, leisure, a range of problem situations, and health and personal relationships, for example, can be found on the South Savo youth portal (Po1nt Nuorten portaali) in Finnish.
The school social worker (koulukuraattori) can provide help when required in a variety of problem situations.
The services of the Mikkeli Crisis Centre are also available to young people.
Domestic violence and other violent situations (Lähisuhdeväkivalta ja muut väkivaltatilanteet)
Viola – Free from Violence (Viola – väkivallasta vapaaksi ry) provides counselling, guidance and therapeutic assistance to individuals and groups, for example, in violent situations.
Viola’s services are intended for children and young people, women and men. Services are free.

Impartial legal aid is available from the Mikkeli Legal Aid Office in matters relating, for example, to divorce, crime, or violence. Check to see whether you are entitled to free legal aid. Make an appointment in advance.

Death (Kuolema)
The Mikkeli Parish Union (Mikkelin seurakuntayhtymä) is responsible for cemetery services. A fee is charged for funeral services, although subsidies are available. The cemetery has consecrated ground for members of both Lutheran and Orthodox churches. Members of other religious communities may also be buried in the cemetery.
