Social and Crisis Emergency Services

Immediate help in a crisis can be obtained around the clock from Espoo Social and Crisis Emergency Services in Finnish, Swedish and English, tel. (09)  8164 2439. Where necessary, the operator will order an interpreter. Contact may be made for issues relating, for example, to mental health, exhaustion, child welfare and situations of violence.

The service is confidential and free of charge. Callers may also remain anonymous if they wish. Social and Crisis Emergency Services operators discuss the situation with the customer, give advice and, if necessary, will also arrange to visit the caller.

Youth concerns

Youth Refuge

The Espoo Youth Refuge is intended for young people aged 12-19 in need of help. Calls can be made to the refuge at any time. Young people in need can come to the refuge after 5 p.m. and stay until 10 a.m. the next day. Staying overnight at the refuge is completely safe. It is not possible to live permanently at the refuge.

The services are available in Finnish, Swedish and English. Where necessary, the worker at the shelter will order an interpreter.

Youth Clinic

TheEspoo Youth Clinicis an open care facility for citizens of Espoo aged 13-22, and their close relatives, who have problems relating to use of drugs, gambling or other addictive behaviour, family, human relationships, puberty or becoming independent.

Crisis Services for Men

The Unbeaten Line in Espoo (Lyömätön Linja Espoossa) is intended for men who have used or are concerned that they may use violence.

The Men's Line (Miehen Linja) is a project funded by the Finnish Slot Machine Association (Raha-automaattiyhistys) and the City of Espoo. The help line is aimed at immigrant men who have used violence or are concerned that they may use violence in their intimate relationships or within the family.

Situations of violence

The Espoo shelter of Women's Aid in Espoo (Naisten Apu Espoossa ry:n) can be contacted when a crisis occurs. The Espoo Shelter will take calls around the clock, tel. (09)  591 5130. Calls can also be made anonymously.

The help line of the Espoo family affairs unit is open each weekday from 12 a.m.-2 p.m.

Problems with debt

Espoo ’s citizens may contact financial and debt counselling when they need help, for example, in negotiating agreements with creditors. Telephone counselling and appointments Mon-Thu 10-12 a.m., tel. 0800 9 3488 (free of charge)The various alternatives for settling debt situations are discussed as part of telephone counselling and when making appointments. When calling it helps considerably that the customer is prepared to explain the situation and has to hand details of the family income, living expenses and the amount of debt involved.
