Voluntary 10th grade (Vapaaehtoinen kymppiluokka/10. luokka)
The 10th grade (10. luokka), or voluntary additional basic education (vapaaehtoinen kymppiluokka), is intended for young people leaving comprehensive school who have not got a place to study or who need more time to plan their future. Pupils in the 10th grade can improve the grades on their leaving certificate, acquaint themselves with working life and with education and training opportunities, and improve their chances of being accepted as a student.
Those over 16 in Savonlinna can receive additional basic education at Savonlinna Upper Secondary School for Adults or at Savonlinna Christian College.

Upper secondary vocational education (Toisen asteen ammatillinen koulutus)
Vocational education is provided in Savonlinna in Finnish.
Finnish language skills must be of a level sufficient for study alongside students who have Finnish as their mother tongue. Support is provided for immigrants where necessary to enable them to complete their vocational studies.
Savonlinna Vocational College (SAMI) (Savonlinnan ammatti- ja aikuisopisto SAMI)
Savonlinna Vocational College provides training in natural and environmental protection (luonnonvara- ja ympäristöala), social and health care and physical education (sosiaali-, terveys- ja liikunta-ala), culture (kulttuuriala), tourism, catering and home economics (matkailu-, ravitsemis- ja talousala), technology and transport (tekniikan ja liikenteen ala), and social sciences, business and administration (yhteiskuntatieteiden, liiketalouden ja hallinnon ala). Courses are provided for both young people and adults.
Savonlinna Vocational College organises courses for immigrants in preparation for vocational education, as well as preparatory and rehabilitative teaching and guidance.
