Welcome to Kuopio

Kuopio is a growing city in Eastern Finland. Kuopio is the 8th largest city in Finland and has a population over 90 000. Kuopio was founded in 1775.

Kuopio has a surface area of 1700 sq km. Lakes and forested areas are all around, and the city is surrounded by the lake Kallavesi.

Traffic connections to Kuopio are good and diverse, whether travelling by highway, railroad, air or waterway.

Kuopio is well-known for its easy-going and sociable people, lively Market Hall and the Puijo tower. The city is also known for many events such as the Kuopio Dance Festival, Puijo ski jumping competitions and a generally diverse cultural life.

Today's Kuopio is increasingly known as an international centre of high quality education and research, where high technology meets pure nature.
