Registering an Association

Yhdistyksen rekisteröinti

An association does not have to be registered. Moreover, registration is usually recommended as it makes organising the association activities easier:

  • The responsibility for the activities of registered associations remains with the Board of Directors rather than on individual members of the associations
  • Registered associations are official associations that can apply for project funding and for financial assistance
  • An association may hold its own bank account
  • An association may be granted a permission for fundraising
  • An association can apply to use certain meeting premises free of charge or at a reduced rate
  • Third parties have greater trust in registered organisations and people are more likely to join a registered association rather than an unregistered association
  • It is easier to cooperate and enter into agreements with other associations and authorities
