Kajaani Police Department is located in the court and police building at Lönnrotinkatu 2a, FI-87199 Kajaani. The same building houses the debt collection department of the District Office, Kajaani District Court and the Kajaani unit of the traffic police. There is also a police service centre at Sotkamo.
The customer service point, the office of the investigation department, and the administrative department are open during office hours 8 a.m.–4.15 p.m. Monday to Friday. In case of emergency outside office hours the police may be contacted by using the general emergency telephone number 112. When you ring the emergency number, remember to state your name, address, and the place you are calling from. There is also a wall-mounted telephone next to the main door of the police headquarters which you may use to contact the emergency response centre for Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu, situated in Oulu, which is responsible for allocating call-outs to the nearest police patrol unit.
The Kajaani Police Department is divided into security, investigation, and administration departments. The security department handles emergency tasks, traffic surveillance, and maintenance of public order and security, and participates in preventive operations and criminal investigation. The investigation department is responsible for pre-trial investigation, and participates in preventive operations and the performance of emergency duties. The administration department handles matters relating to personnel and finance, as well as permits and lost property.
Matters relating to permits issued by the police are dealt with at the permit office on the first floor of the police building.
Permits concerning immigrants include
- residence permits
- travel documents, such as refugees’ travel documents and alien’s passports
- driving licences
- identity cards
- matters regarding citizenship
Applications must be submitted on time and in person. Children who are the subject of an application must also be present when the application is submitted.
