Medicines are sold in pharmacies. A doctor’s prescription is required for certain medicines. Always take your Kela Card with you when going to buy medicines, as your sickness insurance will cover a part of the cost of most prescribed medicines.

At pharmacies you have the opportunity to choose a cheaper medicine than the one prescribed by the doctor, provided that both medicines contain the same effective ingredients. The pharmacy staff informs the customer as to whether a cheaper alternative exists.
