Registering as unemployed (Työttömäksi ilmoittautuminen)
Contact the TE Office (työvoimatoimisto) immediately if you become unemployed. Take along to your appointment all references given to you by previous employers as well as your educational qualifications. If you do not possess a certain required certificate, you can disclose it on a later date. Also, remember to take your passport or another official identity document with you that includes your residence permit.
Services provided by the TE Office (Työ- ja elinkeinotoimiston palvelut)
The main services of the TE Office are recruitment, labour force training, career counselling and advisory services regarding education and careers. In your job seeker’s interview your adviser will discuss your hopes and skills with you. You can tell the adviser what kind of work or training you are interested in and you can go through the job search process. After the interview, the adviser will draft a job-hunting plan for you.
Unemployment benefit (Työttömyysturva)
During your period of unemployment, you are entitled to an Unemployment Benefit. There are three different kinds of benefits: earnings-related daily unemployment allowance (päiväraha), basic unemployment allowance (peruspäiväraha) and labour market support (työmarkkinatuki). Seeking a job (Työnhaku)
The TE Office also has information on Vacancies. If you cannot find employment in the open labour market, you have plenty of other options. You can try to find a work experience placement or a work try-out, subsidised employment, or work on an apprenticeship contract. Read more about these alternatives on the Info Bank Different ways of finding work webpages.
More information on the services of the TE Office is available on the Labour Administration Website.
