According to Finnish law, men and women are equal. Authorities shall promote the equality between men and women. The Gender Equality Ombudsman supervises that legislation is being applied and provides counselling on equality issues.

Equality in Finland –brochure contains information on, e.g., marriage and divorce, bringing up children, education, and difficulties of family life. The brochure is available in the following languages:

The Family Federation offers help and support to immigrant families and multicultural families. You can contact the Family Federation, for example, if you have problems in raising you children or in your relationship. The Duo project of the Familia Club offers support and guidance for families from two cultures.

The Familia Club website also contains a guide for families from two cultures. This guide contains information on relationships and raising children. The guide is available in Finnish, English, French, Russian and Thai.

Yksinhuoltajien ja yhteishuoltajien liitto (Association of single parents and joint custodians) organises activities and provides information on single-parent families. The Finnish Rainbow Families Association (Sateenkaariperheet ry) is the Finnish association for lesbian, bisexual, trans gender and gay parents and their children that organises activities and provides information. Family counsellors of the Transgender Support Center (Transtukipiste) provide counselling to people whose family member belongs to a sexual minority.

Family Planning

Healthcare centres and family planning clinics provide help in family planning and contraception. Contraceptives are available e.g. in shops and pharmacies.
